Don't judge a book by its cover

I know that you shouldn't but I do � I want to read "We Need to Talk about Kevin" but the cover is really off putting. I also couldn't bring myself to read the "Number One Ladies Detective Agency" because of the cover. I also hate when a book has been made into a film and they use the films poster for the cover. Does anyone else judge a book by its cover?

No, I don't - but personally I wouldn't bother with The Number One Ladies Detective Agency; in my opinion (and it's only my opinion) such plot as it possesses is weak and predictable, and its writing is clumsy, laboured and unsophisticated. Other than that, it's OK.........

Sometimes I notice a book because of its cover, so I guess I could judge it in a positive way from its cover.If the cover is ugly/uninspired/boring etc. and I've had the book recommended or read something good about it I don't care. I don't care as such if a film poster has been used for the book cover, but if I could chose between one with the poster and something else, I would go for something else :)

As another point I can't stand it when they make films into books and they tend to have the poster as cover, in those cases I can't stand it either!

I'm ashamed to say I do judge them by their covers. Just this weekend I bought The Chronicles of Narnia, books I've read loads of times before. Because the film will be out soon the book shop had a whole load of different covers for them - I had to choose the prettiest, most creative cover even though the words inside are exactly the same (and the one I bought was more expensive!).

kaktus, I would just like to add that I didn't choose the ones covered in film posters! I prefer Illustrations on childrens books - perhaps because I'm a big kid!

I can understand you perfectly indieanna! I would never buy Harry Potter in the adult version (that sounds rather naugthy doesn't it?) it has to be the child/original one and I would definitely go for Narnia in a childrens version too. And I promise I want come and bite those who buy film posters versions :)
