Hi, If you make itunes your default player, all you have to do is play a song in your windows media player and it will automatically transfer itself to itunes. It works for me anyway!

"Manually adding music stored on your hard disk
If you have music on your hard disk or external drive you can easily add it to your iTunes library. Simply select the music file (or folder of music files) and drag it into the Library window.

Import playlists from other music players
As part of your move to iTunes, you may also want to move your playlists. Search your hard disk for the title of the playlist you want to import. When you locate it, drag it to your desktop so youll know where it is. Then in iTunes, open the File menu and choose Import.

Consolidate your music library
In Windows, when the iTunes Setup Assistant locates a music file or when you drag a music file into iTunes, a link is made to that files location on your hard disk. To keep all your music in a single location on your hard disk, open the Advanced menu and choose Consolidate Library. These files are copied and placed in your iTunes Music folder. With all your music in one place, you can more easily copy it to another Windows PC or Mac or back up your music library to an external hard disk or other media.

"
Just to add, if the files in your media player are DRM protected Windows media audio files, you can't put them on your ipod. The best way to get those tracks on your ipod would be to burn them as an audio disc, then import the audio disc through itunes.
