I have a very narrow taste in music - Soul and Funk only - so know very little of The Beatles music. I wasn't around at the time, so its pretty much passed my by, but a lot of the songs I do know, I haven't been massively impressed by (things like Help I found a bit meh).

However...

I heard The Long and Winding Road today for the first time and, oh my god, I think that's possibly the most beautiful song I've ever heard.

So, I'm going to broaden my horizons - any suggestions for Beatles gems?

Abbey Road is there best album imo
Everything. You can't go wrong.

But, if you like The Long and Winding Road, I'm sure you'll like:

Let It Be
Hey Jude
Across the Universe
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Julia
Dear Prudence

And many, many others.
Something - from the Abbey Road album. Great song.
It was even better before Phil Spector destroyed it.

Personally, my favourite Beatles ballad is Something, but I always preferred Harrison to Lennon/McCartney.
Never a big Beatles fan myself but usually I liked their ballad type songs like the one you mentioned. I'm sure you would have heard Imagine and one I liked was In My Life. Some with George singing were good too.
Imagine isn't actually a Beatles song. It's John Lennon solo.
I wasn`t around then either but they rereleased the Beatles songs in 1976 (I think) My favourites were the ones that George Harrison wrote
A hidden Gem.

Hey Jude,worst record ever made,imo.

Go for the later stuff, Deskdiary.
Never really liked them until Sgt Pepper.
JimF I stand corrected.
Away from the singles

Norwegian Wood
Blackbird
A Day In The Life
She's Leaving Home
Blackbird
Here Comes The Sun
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Got To Get You Into My Life
Golden Slumbers/Carry The Weight
Revolution
In My Life

Hmmm. It seem I must really like Blackbird :-D
A bit sloppy but my all time fave is
If I Fell in Love with You
This is their finest moment, though it won't be to everybody's taste:

Only two songs really stand the time-Eleanor Rigby and And i love her. Both written by the true musical genius of the Fab Four-Paul McCartney.
Really liked "Norwegian Wood"
Anything written and performed by George. I was never a fan of the Beatles, but George was so talented - the quiet one.
Seeing as how you are now maturing when it comes to listening to music. Check this guy out. A world of pain and compassion.
