Now running away. My good ness some of the ex Policemen on here must wonder what is happening.

IMHO it's time to bring the Army in whilst the Met is cleared of the liberal do-gooders and then rebuilt by a copper with proper boots on the ground experience (of any race or religion whoever is best for the job).

And at the same time its time to drain the judicial swamp. Start banging these rioters up. If anyone thinks this is about race they are sadly mistaken these are just louts.

Anyone seen Citizen Khan?

ymb. I agree with everything that you are saying especially the bit about superior officers should have boots on the ground experience.I think that all police officers should have two years on the beat before any sort of promotion.
Senior officers might be better.

yep plod is an embarrassment these days. They filled their ranks with social workers of late. The crims must love it.
I have to say this every couple of weeks: Khan is not in charge of the police. Priti Patel is.

Anyone seen her?
jno, hate to disagree but:-
//The Mayor of London was given a direct mandate for policing in London in 2011, as part of the Police and Social Responsibility Act//
all the mayor can do is make plans and priorities, dannyk. He can't hire or fire anyone if it doesn't work: the commissioner is appointed by the Queen under advisement from the Home Secretary.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commissioner_of_Police_of_the_Metropolis
having looked at he video i think theres something that connects them all but i cant put my finger on it.
jno, so he is responsible for ythe day to day running of the police in London.
//. As such, the Mayor is responsible for setting the strategic direction of policing in London through the Police and Crime Plan.//
Well at least Patel has condemned the morons. Off to see what Khan has had to say...could be while.

Home Secretary Priti Patel has condemned the “vile scenes” at a street party in Brixton that descended into chaos and violence, resulting in more than 20 police officers getting injured.

just "setting the direction", dannyk. He can't make them go there, that's the commissioner's job. If the commissioner does his or her job badly, there's nothing the mayor can do. This is unlike the mayor of New York, who as I understand it is actually in charge of policing through the commissioner.

I think what's essentially happened is that Parliament has tried to hand over responsibility but not power. London's mayor can't control anything much except traffic.
no need to wait, roy, you could have checked out his Twitter feed a couple of hours ago.

When Priti acts rather than talking, that's another matter.
He can control what comes out of his mouth.

What has come out his mouth about this incident?
you want him to phone up and give you a personal interview? Just check his Twitter page like anyone else.
2 hours ago...must have took some composing that.
Strategic skills allow a leader to create policies, establish direction, and determine how to effectively allocate resources to achieve a larger goal. Execution, on the other hand, involves the tactical, practical skills needed to put a plan into motion. Where strategic thinking allows a leader to craft the future of an organization by making broad decisions, the tactical skills of execution are required to bring the vision to life. (nicked from https://www.eaglesflight.com/blog/strategy-vs.-business-execution-what-matters-more)

The Mayor sets the strategy. The Home Secretary (technically the Queen) appoints the Commissioner. The Commissioner executes the strategy.
dannyk, I know all that, honestly. He has to make a plan. But he doesn't have the power to implement it. He can tell the police what he wants done but he can't do it, that's what commissioners are for. And it's the Home Secretary who chooses commissioners.

As explained by ellipsis and jno, danny, I think you are confusing strategy and tactics. Strategy is "we will make a cup of tea for all the team at 3pm every day". The tactics are "We'll fill the kettle and switch it on at 2:45. We'll get the cups from the cupboard and mild and sugar them at 2:50 etc. etc."

The Mayor decides that tea will be provided every day at 3pm. The Commissioner decides what time to put the kettle on, etc.

Having said that, the Commissioner would probably devolve the task to a Commander or Chief Superintendent. He or she would look at the pay and working conditions of the people picking the tea and decide they ere unacceptable so no tea could be purchased. It would make no odds anyway because anyone asking for white tea would be branded a racist. They could go and play chess instead, but that's under investigation as well because white always goes first:

Draughts must be OK, though, because traditionally black opens the proceedings.
