Which male and female singers have your favourite voices? My favourite male singing voices are Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Nat King Cole, John Lennon, and (though I appreciate this voice is very Marmite) Bob Dylan. My favourite female singing voices are Shirley Bassey, Stacey Kent, Susanna Hoffs, Linda Ronstadt, and Tammy Wynette

I suppose those that you listen to most often must be your favourites.
According to my recent Amazon history those will be...

Weller, Bowie, Cash, Hibbert.
Lennox, Chapman, Adkins, Moore.

Don't think it's a case of favourite singers, per se, more a singer being right for the song - perhaps with the exception of the late, great Freddie Mercury who had the most acrobatic of voices. No-one can belt out Black Sabbath songs like Ozzy Osborne, ditto Thin Lizzy and Phil Lynott, Genesis and Peter Gabriel, to name just a few. Songs written by Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan only sound 'right' when sung by those two. Even now, Dylan's voice is more a 'rasp' but he's just released a new album of songs which , imho, is quite brilliant but would not sound as good if someone else sang them in a fresh, clear voice.
As for female singers, I guess the two who have left the most impression on me are Yvonne Elliman and Alison Moyet. Both have great voices and do put a lot of emotion into their work.
It depends on my mood but those that spring to mind include
George Michael, James Morrison, Justin Hayward, Harry Connick jnr
Barbra Streisand, Paloma Faith, Cher, Dusty Springfield

Scott Walker, Neil Hannon, Rag'n'Bone Man, Peter Gabriel, Jon Anderson, Colin Blunstone. For the ladies, Chrissie Hynde, Dusty Springfield, Cyndi Lauper, Kirsty MacColl, Tori Amos, Kate Bush
Depends on the song.
Ken, in response to what you wrote about Dylan and Cohen, I find that's the case with a lot of great songwriters with less than great voices. Tom Waits, Dr Feelgood, Lou Reed and Iggy Pop all spring to mind.

There are a lot of singers I like but the one who most matches my varying moods is Lady Day. She never fails.
I answered based purely on the sound of their voice, irrelevant of the songs or music I like or listen to.
Sorry, meant Captain Beefheart, not Dr Feelgood. Lee Brilleaux had that kind of voice too, but I was thinking of Beefheart.
Mozz, when I first discovered I could 'burn' my own CDs, Beefheart's 'Mirror Man' was one of the first on my list:-) Should have seen my kids' faces when they heard me playing it. Priceless :-)
Lots but those that spring to mind Josh Groban and Carmen Monarca
Barry white.Barry Manilow. Bee Gees
lady janine who is Lady Day, what does she sing?
