As the list on the Daily Wail's website refers to 'broadcasters', rather than simply 'DJs', I'd certainly agree with the inclusion of Alan Coren, Brian Johnson, Alistair Cooke and Humphrey Lyttleton. If I was asked to make that shortlist up to a total of five nominees, I'd add in Terry Wogan (but then feel annoyed that I'd not got space left for Jeremy Hardy, Linda Smith, Simon Hoggart and Fergal Keane).

However, as most people here are concentrating solely on DJs, here's my own top 5:
1. Alex Lester
2. Martin Kelner
3. Terry Wogan
4. Sarah Kennedy
5. Desmond Carrington
(leaving me fed up that I've not got enough space left for Ken Bruce, John Peel and Charlie Gillett).
Just three for me.
Top is Bernie Keith (Radio Northampton). Fantastic host and interviewer.
Terry Wogan.
Graham Norton.

My list would include Paul O’Grady, Sara Cox, Noel Edmonds, Mike Read (though not on his current station), and Diddy David Hamilton
Dave Lee Travis. Every time.
I've got no problem with Wogan and Peel in the top two places, but Chris Evans has no place there.

The late Ray Moore is worthy of consideration.
Sorry, but there is no place for Terry Wogan on this list.

I have to say that before he became a TV fixture, Noel Edmunds was a very entertaining DJ.
I knew someone who bought all the records of the signature tunes of the first Radio 1 DJ's. Tis true.
Wogan would be my choice.
I would suggest that such was Wogan's popularity that the law of averages say that if one per cent of his audience voted, he would claim the top spot by miles.

My distaste of him is known to regulars, so I'll save my vitriol for another day -

my top five would be -

Kenny Everett
Alan Freeman
Paul Carrington (when he was on Signal Radio)
John Peel
Bruno Brookes (he gave me my first interviewing job!!)
Polls, and threads like this show up just how personal people's choices of radio voices is.

One person's hero / heroine is another's pariah - so while I loathe Wogan with a passion, masses of people loved and still miss him.
Ken Bruce is the only Radio 2 presenter I can listen to. Like anyone who is good at something, he makes it sound very easy, but I know it's not. I like his dry wit, and he always says what the song is when it finishes. I always turn over at 10:30 from Radio 3 for Popmaster.
Whatever happened to Simon Dee ;-)
Surprised no one included our local boy,Jimmy Young.
My “really?” would be Noel Edmonds. I hated him on Radio One, and later on TV, even before he went weird.
I even met him once and was instantly put off :-)

Noel was massively successful though. You may be relieved to know he now lives in New Zealand!
