South African Covid Mutation.

Halfcock has just announced that a mutation of the Covid virus has reached our shores from South Africa. He said
// “Both are cases, both are contacts of cases, who have travelled from South Africa over the past few weeks. //

So an admission that the air corridors and self quarantining isn’t working. That the lack of testing of people coming into this country from places abroad is a a major hole in our defences. You would think the Government would announce mandatory testing as an urgency for arrivals from South Africa, but Hancock was silent.

We are going to be going from one crisis to another until the Government get a grip.

Its not just arriving by humans, we import many goods from South Africa, its one area that is being very much over looked, in saying that there's very little you can do about it. Goods coming in that are in constant cold storage, then the virus will thrive.

since 1% of th epop have the virus and there is no evidence of reinfection - banning this and that from coming in probably wont make much difference

It isn’t possible to “get a grip” of this. That should be obvious by now.
The fact that a mutant strain from S Africa has got here is hardly surprising.

What I want to know is why the government is waiting till Boxing Day to put the rest of the UK into tier 4. Why not do it now?

because they will kill off Christmas day for millions, people have made plans to be with family for the one day. We are two days away from it, do you honestly think people are going to stop their plans now.

I don't think everywhere is going to be in Tier 4.

And its unfair to give businesses and councils and police and familys no notice

Six million more people in the east and south east of England are to enter tier four on Boxing Day, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has announced.

The places moving into the highest level of restrictions - which include a "stay at home" order - border the areas already in tier four.

A number of areas will also move up into tiers three and two.
