Could it be Silent Night which was sung by British and German troops when they stopped fighting for Christmas night and shared a football match before trying to kill each other again?

You may possibly be thinking of Paul McCartney's "Pipes Of Peace". The song itself isn't about a battlefield sporting match, but the promo video was.

It may well be "Altogether Now" by The Farm,a song which celebrated the unofficial armistice on Christmas day 1914 when English and German troops played a game of football in "No Man's Land".The song was also chosen as England's official anthem for the Euro 2004 tournament.
