I was in my mid/late teens when SAW started to take over the UK pop charts, an avid reader of Music Week and NME, and with a couple of exceptions, disliked everything about the plastic pop production line they ushered in. I think that a few of their acts improved substantially after leaving SAW, such as Ms Minogue or Mr Astley, and that spoke volumes to me.

I think you are absolutely right.
In my teens, my obsessions were so strong that i would instantly dislike on sight anyone who didn't share my utter obsession with ELP and Focus!
But of course, with age comes tolerance, and I like to simply accept that not everything is for me, and I am not going to enjoy all I hear, but I do love a significant amount of it to an abnormally passionate degree.
My granddaughter's boyfriend thinks I am irredeemably cool because I wear Doc Martens and Levis and jump up and down at Metallica gigs ... I am inclined to agree with him.
