Into Your Arms is my funeral song :-)
tigger - // Did they ever play James Blunts You're Beautiful? //

Many times, because Mr Blunt, like The Beautiful South with Don't Marry Her, and others, were savvy enough to record another version with the potentially offensive lyrics changed, so they could be played on daytime radio.
Andy, I remember complaints when it was played in full at some supermarket (asda or somewhere). Lol.
Ah, mozz... mine keep changing. At the moment, Run and There You'll Be... I'm still standing might be a good light relief :-)
I did consider I'm Only Sleeping for one of mine lol
Talking of funeral songs - here's mine -

"Aint it grand to be bloody well dead" by the Clancy Brothers is my funeral song.
Going Underground would be good for a burial.
That's a fine song Andy, which I've badly karaoked a couple of times. I always thought that a truly great song is one that can stand being covered by Michael Bolton without having it's original version sullied by that outrage (also: When A Man Loves A Woman, Lean On Me)
Pixie, or I'm On Fire for a cremation. (Hot Hot Hot also works)
From my list on page one the standouts for me were Nightswimming which was amazing and Praying For Time had probably the most poignant lyrics ever
‘And charity is a coat you wear twice a year’, pure genius.
Strangely Sticky, I wouldn't have chosen Nightswimming in my top 10 REM songs. I just find it kinf of forgettable.
I was lucky enough to have been a teenager in the 60s, and I loved most of the music we were gifted with (...apart from the Ken Dodd/Des O'Connor/Engledinck dross that mysteriously kept coming up). But I also loved the 70s, although it was a very different time. In The 80s, my interest waned, as the business became far too powerful, and I became far more interested in comedy, to the extent that I became the archivist for the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy appreciation society - which I still am to this day, and I have the largest collection of memorabilia in the known universe. The 90s had hardly any impact on me at all, but looking through the stuff I was still buying, I still found a substantial number of records I bought, which I still regard as classics. Here's the list - in no particular order:

Oasis - Some Might Say
Mike + The Mechanics - All I Need Is A Miracle '96
Vic Reeves and The Wonder Stuff - Dizzy
Judie Tzuke - Outlaws
The Popinjays - Monster Mouth*
The Pretenders - Don't Get Me Wrong
Madonna - Vogue
Madonna - Beautiful Stranger
Sugar - If I Can't Change Your Mind
Ace Of Base - The Sign
Snap! featuring Summer - Welcome To Tomorrow*
Phil Collins - Something Happened On The Way To Heaven
Veruca Salt - Seether
Veruca Salt - Volcano Girls*
Green Day - Basket Case
Weezer - Buddy Holly*
Slowdive - When The Sun Hits
Betty Boo - Let Me Take You There
Fem 2 Fem - Naked Heart
Pet Shop Boys - Se A Vida É (That's The Way Life Is)
Elastica - Waking Up
New Radicals - You Get What You Give*
Alisha's Attic - I Am, I Feel
Sing-Sing - Feels Like Summer
The Beatles - Real Love
The Beatles - Free As A Bird
Davy Spillane - Indiana Drones
Ozric Tentacles - Sploosh!
They Might Be Giants - Birdhouse In Your Soul*
Wilson Phillips - Hold On
Dire Straits - Calling Elvis*
Genesis - No Son Of Mine
Boo Radleys - Wake Up Boo!
Shonen Knife - Space Christmas
Shonen Knife - Riding On The Rocket*
The Cat - Tongue Tied*
Toccata And Fugue - Vanessa-Mae
Mock Turtles - Can You Dig It?
Cast - Alright
Supergrass - Late In The Day*
Tin Tin Out featuring Shelley Nelson - Here's Where The Story Ends
DiVinyls - I Touch Myself
The Faders - Jump*
Kylie Minogue - What Do I Have To Do?
Ash - Girl From Mars
Ash - Jesus Says
Fountains Of Wayne - I Want An Alien For Christmas*
The Lillies - And David Seaman Will Be Very Disappointed About That

The ones I've starred - * - all have great videos on YouTube too.

I guess most of you had probably forgotten about many of those! But that's not all - I've left the best till last, and this band made me focus my interest back on music - I have a complete collection of everything they ever did, and these are the best (some of these were not singles as such, but B-tracks on CD EPs):

Lush - For Love
Lush - Sweetness And Light*
Lush - Starlust
Lush - De-Luxe*
Lush - I Have The Moon
Lush - I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend
Lush - Nothing Natural*
Lush - Monochrome

And some people are saying there was no good music in the 90s - have a proper look, and I expect most of you will come up with a similar list with completely different tracks!
If anything good came out of music in the '90s, Coldplay soon cancelled it out.
Andi - i notice you have the good sense to include Jump by The Faders in your list.

I interviewed their drummer Cherisse Osei for Drummer Magazine at that time, and we have remained good friends - I have met and interviewed her several times since - the latest time being for the cover of the re-launched Rhythm Magazine.

Since The Faders, Cherisse has enjoyed a wonderful career, she went on to play with Mica and toured the world with him for eight years, as well as Bryan Ferry, Paloma Faith (she requested Cherisse via social media!!) Kelly Jones from The Stereophonics, and she is currenty drummer of choice for Simple Minds.
Apart from tigger on page Radiohead don't get a mention.

I thought everyone bought ok comp?

It doesn’t really make sense that music went *** for 10 years. So if you didn’t like it, you must be old.

There was loads of good stuff. Maybe not in the charts but playing live, on CD and on Peel.
So T I S H is now it the swear filter.

Do forget to wash your mouth out with soap before you retire to bed.
^ agreed.
And if some one loved 70s and 80s but thought 90s was rubbish then the chances are the wont like 2000-2020 stuff neither.
For me theres enough good music from each decade 1960 onward's to make a great playlist for each
bobbinwales

I agree with you too.
I really like looking in at into mamylynne’s nightly thread.
Not for people posting tired old hits from when they were 19, 45 years ago, but for the modern stuff she finds which is usually very good and new to me.
