Work Bombshell. Next Steps
6 Answers
Hi all,
I need some guidance relating to a work situation.
I joined a US company in June. Employed to do a specific role. Have done that role and was about to take on more responsibility with a large project that I had received board funding in principle for. We had a team prepped and ready to go. We were just waiting for go-ahead and money to be released.
I've been told that now the company has decided to do a complete u-turn, not do the project and in fact to abolish the whole function within the business.
My role is to specifically do that function and I'm the only person in the business in that role.
My line manager who gave me the news had no explanation as to what this meant for my job and clearly hadn't spoken to leadership or HR.
The bombshell was delivered and I was left without explanation or next steps.
My probation period was 3 months. I've been told that I had helped change the company for the better. My work has had great feedback. I turned down four other jobs to take this role at this company. My line manager acknowledges that I've been stitched-up.
What would be your next move? It's a US company, but I'm employed and liaise with our UK HR team so I assume that it's under UK law.
I also had recorded the conversation (without the other parties acknowledgement I must add).
