Looking at the list of cities, I personally think they should give it to Glasgow. What do you reckon?

We are short listed too so may the best city win
Why are they all up North?
Birmingham is Midlands
>>> Why are they all up North?

The European Broadcasting Union's rules state that the venue must be capable of holding a minimum of 10,000 people. Other than in London (which has effectively been excluded by the BBC's policy of diversifying its activities away from the capital), almost all such venues are 'up north'.

I'd like to see Sheffield playing host to the contest (partly because I spent a couple of decades in the city, and still have a great fondness for it, but partly because it's twinned with Donetsk) but I suspect that Glasgow will actually be where it's held.

To a Londoner though, Canary42, everything beyond Watford Gap is simply 'up north' ;-)
Do not give it to Glasgow. Any other city but not Glasgow
///everything beyond Watford Gap is simply 'up north' ;-)///

Many years ago I went into a pub in the middle of Dartmoor where the landlord boasted of having a beer from up north - turned out to be Wadworths in Devizes (suited me though, I was living in Swindon at the time and Wadworths was my regular tipple)
I'm sure that I needn't tell you, Canary42, which part of the UK we Suffolk folk are referring to when we refer to "that strange place up north" ;-)
Alas, Bullards are no more.
Liverpool.
I was going to say similar to Chris. If you live in the South, all those places are far north to us.

I think it's only fair that a northern city gets the benefits of tourism.
the problem for any venue is the contest organisers need it for up to 8 weeks before the night. the city that gets the gig will be the one with the fewest prior bookings, or where the cost of moving the prior bookings will be the lowest.
