Shortage Of Decent Panettone

Does anyone know where to get a decent panettone?

My local delicatessen closed during the year and as such I cannot get them from there any more...I'm not talking about normal panettone, it MUST be the type that has a hazelnut/almond kind of frosting...most panettones don't have this but the best ones do! If it hasn't got the frosting it's not worth eating!

A small local Tescos had them last year, cheap too! Labeled as "tescos finest" but the small store also shut during the year and the larger store only seems to stock the boring regular ones without frosting.

Does anyone know where to get such a panettone?

Chapers it may be worth taking a look in your local Lidl. People often turn their noses up at them but they do some fine continental stuff, great prices. I have seen Panetonne there, just not sure if it has the frosting.

Yeah!! That's the stuff!! I was hoping since my local deli closed I wouldn't have to pay more than �13 for a panettone again...guess I was wrong!

Anyone know of a cheaper alternative?

Alteranatively your gonna have to drive further out to find them. Luckily I get them free every year direct from family in Italy

You probably wont believe this but i was in TK MAXX of all places the other day and they had them. Real Italian posh looking ones in fancy tins and boxes, cheap as chips, it says "this season" on them so you know they are not left over from Christmases gone by.

I was in John lewis today and they had loads and loads of different ones (all pretty posh looking). Cant stand it myself but they looked very nice and like i said came in all shapes and sizes.

John lewis...thats the same kinda thing as TK Maxx isn't it? Got neither of those places anywhere near me...

BUT I have just returned from Tescos with a 1kg Panettone that looks right, only �8 and I had a quick nibble and YES!! It is EXACTLY what I'm looking for...I'm going back there tomorrow and buying at least 5 more!

We also grabbed a smaller cheaper one and it didn't have the frosting...seems the frosted ones actually taste better than regular ones!

I've been a panettone fan for years but had never had a frosted one. after reading your post last night I bought one today from our local italian deli - you are right, the frosting is delicious! I have three small plain ones in the cupboard which will now be relegated to panettone bread and butter pud

it's not just the hazelnut/almond frosting that makes it good...but the ones with the frosting do taste significantly better.

I apologise for getting you into the frosted ones, they are far more expensive and harder to get.

i have seen several different Panetonne in costco but don't know if it has frosting.
