Maybe it's an age thing, but they sound like a combination of various New Wave bands I heard as a child in the late 70's and early 80's. When I heard 'I predict a riot', I honestly thought it was an old song being played. It sounded so familiar!
Glad you're all excited for Christmas though. Have a great one! :-)

I actually bought the CD for my Granddaughter (16), but thought I'd have listen before I wrap it & got rather carried away! I'm going to do a copy for myself to play in the car now - head bobbing to & fro!
I know what you mean about that particular track - but Every Day I Love You Less & Less & Modern Way are quite catchy! Some of the others are too, 'specailly when you're sitting on the sofa with headphones on with lots of bass!
Have a great Christmas too Drusilla.
Dont get them either. Sound like XTC to me (and no, that isnt a good thing).
They are hardly pushing forward the boundaries of music are they - or as dris says perhaps its an age thing- our generation wanted music to change things and i dont think that is expected any more (not a good or bad thing - just a thing)

I like them - one of the best new chart bands around (although there are plenty who don't make the charts that I prefer). As for not pushing forward the boundaries of music - well maybe not, but I've heard a lot of bands and artists get away with some (IMHO) pretty unlistenable drivel over the years on the pretext of "pushing forward the boundaries" - Bjork, for a start. Personally, when it comes to discovering new music, I'm more interested in whether I like the sound of it. If it can be innovative as well, that's great, but whether or not it sounds good to me is my prime concern. I certainly find the Kaiser Chiefs better to listen to than some of the other newcomers like Bloc Party (yawn) or The Rakes (ho hum), for example.
BTW, I'm old enough to remember the bands of the late 70s too - and I like XTC. :-p

Smudge - I love the Kaiser Cheifs - I think the album is fab and think that they have a really good time with their songs - that is they inject some humour into them. They dont take themselves seriously like some other bands - i.e Franz Ferdinand.
I also thought that 'i predict a riot' was an older song, but it is a good one - I am taking some poetic licence with it and renaming it 'I predict a diet' in preparation for the annual slim down after New Year !
