Im wondering if he will really get around to changing his name to George which is one of his christian names anyway. I read HRH would change to George if and when he becomes king as the kings Charles 1st and 2nd had no luck whatsoever. Saying that the present day Charles lost his head..... over a woman:-)

It's not unheard of for monarchs to change their name. In the last century Albert became Edward VII, David became Edward VIII and Bertie became George VI (even though his brother was called George). I was always under the impression that Charles would take the title George VII but some say he'll stick with Charles III.

actually I believe that it is unusual in recent times for the Monarch to reign under his or her baptismal name. There is a story that the Queen was still in shock over the death of her father when she was asked under what name she would reign and gave her own name without giving it any thought.
He is a sorry excuse for a man, so who cares. He doesn't even have the courage of his own convictions, because if he had he would have married Camilla in the first place and not ruined so many lives, i.e. Camilla's husband, Diana and given us all so much gossip. The monarchy, if it is to survive, should be above soap opera status which is what it has descended to. Just another episode of Eastenders, Corrie, etc. When he was born astrologers said he would never rule anyway.
Whatever name he choses, neither of them will be popular.
What about Chuck?
King Chuck has a certain ring to it.
I don't understand why Charles is considered unlucky. I accept Charles I lost his head, but Charles II unlucky? Why?
He survived a Civil War, was popular with the people, very popular with the ladies and saw the country through a difficult transition from a colourless dictatorship to monarchy.
He was quite a good king and his reputation has improved of late as people become more aware of his diplomatic skills, rather than being transfixed by his rampant sex life.
If there's an unlucky name for a King of England, it's got to be Richard. All three have died violent deaths.
We've had six Georges and they've been either boring, thick, or bonkers, but I suppose any one of those descriptions might well fit the present Prince Of Wales.

The whole lot of them make me sick. There's nothing genuine and down to earth about them. They live in a totally unreal and stupid world.

If Charles takes the name Charles III, then the last eight monarchs (the seven listed by In A Pickle plus William IV) would all have had different regnal numbers. The same would apply if he called himself Elizabeth III, of course.

I don't want to argue with woofgang, who is usually right, but I have heard somewhere that the present Queen was quite definite in her choice of name. She was asked which name she wished to take and replied "My own name of course - Elizabeth". Her other names, Alexandra and Mary would also have been suitable, having been owned by two popular queen consorts in the 20th century.

Is Charles able to just pass the thrown to William?
