I'm sick to death of dealing with shop staff wearing these ear pieces, chatting away to each other and not taking a blind bit of notice of what your saying to them( thats because they cant dam well hear you) when did the customer become invisable and un-important well it seems a while ago now. Is there a real need for everyone in the shop to wear these ruddy things, they look as if they are working for MI5. If your lucky you may get a grunt out of them now and again. Ok, I'm resting now.:0(

nicebloke, totally agree. In most areas of the retail trade, stores and banks in particular, the customer is seen as a necessary nuisance. They go out of their way to make things as awkward as possible for their customers so that eventually they can close down all their branches and trade only on line.

Try a diferent supermarket.

different!

Can't say I've had a problem with it.

You may have wandered into a Secret Service training day.

I've never come across that.  Over eager sales people that jump on me as soon as I'm through the door irritate me

Cant you just use the automated, self check-out tills?

17.49. Thats partly the point I'm making, there is less and less human contact. Even the so called badly off BIG ISSUE sellers are chatting away on there expensive tackle, and now just grunt at you as you pass, so i grunt back.

In some shops, they don't even need to wear ear pieces to ignore you!  Wandering into a clothes shop, I find some assistants pay no attention to you, don't come to help or even just ask if they can help .... wonder what they would do if I stuffed some sweaters into a bag and walked out?

I've forced them to pay attention to me before and I do it when necessary.  I just stand there, in their sight, smiling and saying 'Good Morning' (or whatever).  I don't hand over money etc. until they have made eye contact and then I'll great them again.  They always answer & off we go!  There's a butcher in our smalltown who has a notice up saying, 'If your phone is more important than being served, that's fine by me - I'll serve the next custormer instead'.  It worked- andit got into the local paper so he got a good advert as well.

When into a sports shop last week to buy some tops. Got the tops walked over to the self service ( because thats all they have in there) swiped my card, all ok, until a request came up to either choose £1, £2, or £3  for charity, or press not now, kept pressing not now, but wouldnt work, so wouldnt complete my purchase. 3 kids in the corner of the shop (staff) playing about with the box of balls, all with their ruddy ear pieces in. Went over to tell them that my purchase wouldnt complete,One of the kids said, OH, OK well try pressing this, if that dont work try pressing so and so, so I said, what I will do is walk back take my card and leave the tops for you to put back. So do you, or dont you, want and come and sort it out?

Oh dear. Grumpy old folk like us hate the new young world. I do, but I try to make allowances - I was a pain in the bum once.

Life's too short to waste your final years moaning, isn't it?

Question Author

Looking for a decent service is not moaning. Having notices in shop windows asking customers not to abuse shop staff is a joke, its the other way round. Do the job your paid to do, thats all i ask.

Sorry, Victor. I shouldn't have rattled your cage. Ever considered meditation? It's actually quite good for you; I'm now much more relaxed than I used to be.

And please don't say; 'I don't believe it!'

I've been checking back and it was a lot more than once. 😏 x

Ok, come on, what have you done to Mr. Nicebloke?

Thanks Dougie. We welcome your feedback and value its assistance in helping us improve our customer service. Have a good day.

My grandaughter was wanting to spend her birthday money in Selfridges. She said the staff were ignorant and rude. You might think that was annoying in Primark, say, but in Selfridges you expect better.

What they dont realise cloverjo is, when the customers stop walking through the door, the staff will have to walk out the door, for good!! You only have to look how many big names have gone out of business, through running it badly in many cases.
