Regrets? I Have A Few

What on earth did the leader of Hamas expect. He poked a sleeping Lion and is suffering the consequences. The plan of his didn't come together as he hoped. Now his actions have bought consequences because he failed to read his history.

Israel has been attacked, in the past,by Egypt, Syria and Jordan. All were given a sound thrashing and beaten. It would seem they learnt lessons from the past. King Hussein made a peace pact to save his throne and country from Israel.

A Israeli General said after these several wars" We are a resilient country. Our greatest weapon in our armoury, in order to ensure our peace, is to instil fear in us. If that fear of us is broken we must re-establish it "

Well done Hamas . You have killed thousands and it's too late to have regrets.

I think he fully and entirely expected the response hid organisation has received - as you point out, a casual examination of Israel's history in response to armed incursion has been consistent - swift and violent.

I believe he sees Hamas as 'martyrs' and 'freedom fighters'.

I also think he puts the rest of the word's view that they are terrorists, is down to a simple misunderstanding.

i wonder if in my life time, will we see an end to all this violence in that part of the world, i think gaza and the west bank on either side of israel is a bad idea, imho israel should make gaza part of israel, gazans if they wish can go to the west bank, of become israeli, maybe jordan could give a little land to the west bank, mostly desert anyway...just an idea.

o god fender - heaven forfend ( pun- geddit?) you  become Foreign Secretary.  Gaza IS part of Israel - that is  why they are there, durr, dates from 1948 - and West Bank was a reprise ( er repeat that is) 1968, and is the 'occupied west bank' because incorporation against the will of the majority there, failed.

No-one that starts a war these days is ever on the front line. If a rule could be enforced that they had to be, there would be 95%* fewer wars.

One is tempted to say that leaders should lead from the front to inspire the troops; but one can see that losing a great leader on the battlefield is a waste when they could be at lower risk back home doing the job of governing well.
