Hi, I've purchased a new Samsung TV but I don't have an ariel. Did some research first thinking  I could install the Freeview Play app but it's not in the choices of available apps. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to watch BBC through to Chanel 5 without an ariel please?

Can you connect it to your network.

when you say it's not in the available apps do you mean the choices the TV itself offers you? You should be able to search for all the apps like you can on a phone.

Thanks to you both, yes it's connected to my wifi and all catch up services are available but I can't watch anything live due to the lack of an ariel. Tried searching for Freeview Play app but always comes up with no result found?

Conect to network the look for playstore .

Just found out that the Freeview Play app is now not supported by Samsung and is incompatible with the TV. The TV is hung on a wall so a set top box isn't really viable without unsightly cables. Is there any type of USB device that would give me freeview chanels?

We have a recorder attached to a dish which works with Freesat, and an Amazon Fire stick, both plug into a HDMI on the TV, both allow us to watch most of the available channels one by the dish the other by the internet.

Eventually I think everything will have to come that way and the Ariel idea will be no more.  We do have an Ariel by the way but never view anything through it, because mostly I record things to watch and then can get rid of the adverts.

I believe Ariel is in The Tempest...aerial is up on the roof!

If its a smart TV, install iPlayer etc. - they have live tv options.

If it is a smart Samsung tv it may well come with iPlayer, for all BBC, ITVX, 4, and 5 among the options under Source.

My Samsung TV works like perseverer's. 'Source' and then run through the options.

He has already got all the catch up apps.

All the apps allow you to watch the live channels.

Not as handy as having the onscreen guide and quickly changing channels, nor do you get all the Freeview channels

Depending on how strong the signal is in your area, you may be able to pick up some signals just by inserting a cable into the aerial slot in the TV.

Or you could try a coat hanger and insert the top bit into the small hole on the aerial port on the TV.

In both instances you'll have to do a digital channel scan and just hope you pick up some channels.

How about a Roku attatchment?

Roku is the best option as it has the full Freeview Play
