A clever jaunt from Lavatch this week,  and they certainly know how to increase one's vocabulary! ;)

yes they do but is there a word ulnera or ulnare - I can't find it in google - I need it to make 18 across a real (obscure) word

Quinol, your second option is correct...

...and is in Chambers, it's an adjective, from Ulna, a bone in the forearm.

PS I enjoyed this puzzle, it was good fun.

Nice puzzle. But I'm still cross that I failed to get the half of unclued lights last week: 1a, 5a, 17a, 29a, 35d, 36d in 2673. Ah well

many thanks neveracrossword

at least the final 7d wasn't too testing

Do you want the answers, Gourami?

1ac Ridgeley

5ac Davies.

I must be blind ... I can't see the one to be highlighted...unless it's in column 9?

Yes,that's it, Tedsgran - and that one has been 'treated' too...

Hi

Is not 12a another solution as it is a 7d?

Geoff

Geoff, yes, 12 A is a thematic answer.

So which one do we choose?

Perhaps the Spectator's crossword editor could advise. This ambiguity epitomises their current attitude towards crosswords.

When posting questions in "Crosswords", it is helpful if you give the  full clue, letter count, and any letters already achieved.  This gives folk who don't have the particular crossword to hand an opportunty to answer your question.

Geoff, check the posts at 2.26 and 2.28.  I think it's the only one of its kind....

Am I the only one feeling a bit uncomfortable with this song being used as a fairly frivolous crossword theme?

Oh dear I just can't do the last two which are: 30D: (6) tip-top spree around Roman province. I have R??TI? And wondered could it possibly be Riotic but I don't even know if thats a word. And 35A: (4) Old uncles seem dubious and I have ??ES

3d Raetia (Roman province) = a1 tear (reversed)

35 Emes (anagram seem, eme is an uncle)

Thank you so much! I wouldn't have got these by myself.

Thanks Tilly2

Just finished this crossword with the help of threads on here. I found it tough going but learned a lot facts and new vocabulary.

I never send mine in but do look forward to having a go.

Teenieleek, I very much felt the same, as if the actual subject of the song hadn't been understood.
