Has any band been a studio band (i.e. they didn't/don't tour, like the Beatles from 1966 onwards) since they formed?

Steely Dan used to tour, I believe they came over here just once, but for the vast majority of their career, they were a studio-based band, or, more accurately, Fagin and Becker, and which ever white-hot session players they felt would do justice to their amazing music.

I think the Alan Parsons Project were a studio only band.

Alan Parsons was an engineer on Dark Side of The Moon and he formed a "group" called AP Project that made a number of DSOTM type albums.

Not sure if they were ever a group as such, mainly session musicians I think.

There was a San Francisco band from late 60s called "Love" who made a few albums but whose lack of real fame was their lack of desire to tour.

One of their albums "Forever Changes" is a GREAT album and I still listen to it 30 years later.

I was going to suggest "The Dan' Andy.
They stopped touring in early 70's and then didnt tour until early 90's despite making 5 or 6 albums in the mean time.
They have toured since then (i saw them at the NEC in about 91)
have you heard of Scritti Polliti? Famously didnt play live cos the lead singer (Green) had bad stage fright.

XTC havent toured since .........donkeys years ago....Andy Partridge another "stage fright" victim, I've heard.

Kate Bush - only 1 tour (about 1979) and not since.

Enya has never toured.
