The membership of the Gunners has always been somewhat 'fluid', especially where the back line is concerned. For a time, even Axl Rose left the band, but he now has control of the name, and is bringing the band over to the UK for some dates.
As for people who can claim to have been the drummer, take your pick from names like Chris Vrenna once with Nine Inch Nails, Dave Abbruzzee last seen with Pearl Jam, and Josh Freese who have all twiddled sticks behind Axl for varying lengths of tenure. One of the most durable has proved to be Matt Sorum who joined the band from The Cult, and stayed some time before being fired, along with everyone else in the band at that time, but for most people, original drummer Stephen Adler is probably the name you are looking for. Adler was drummer on the ground-breaking 'Appetite For Destruction' album, and was finally fired when drug and alcohol problems rendered his personality too unstable, even by this band's standards!
At the time of writing, ex-Primus skin-beater Brain is the current drum-stool incumbent, but by the time Guns 'n' Roses hit these shores, he could well have joined the above list!
