I'm thinking of buying the abovementioned guitar (although what I really want is a Gibson Les Paul, but they're ridiculously expensive)

Does anyone own one or have any comments on this guitar?

As a substitute for the Gibson version, the Epiphone will suffice. Options to improve the Epiphone include replacing the pick ups and wiring, which can be substandard to Gibson's versions. Also having the guitar set up will help to make the action suit your playing style. If you can handle second hand, look on ebay at the Les Paul Studios, a Gibson should come in at around 500 pounds used. ESP make some great LEs Paul shaped models too.

I have an epiphone les paul. Had it about 6 years and its a great guitar. Really versatile and can produce varied tones. Tried a Gibson and there isn't much difference other than the quality of the woods which unless you are particular (or just sad) doesnt make a difference. Some say theyre on the heavy side... for me this hasn't been a problem - just get a comfortable strap and make sure its at the right height and the weight sees to itself.

I've had on for about 9 years. It's got a great sound. When I bought it I was thrilled with the Sweet Child o' Mine / Motorcycle Emptiness sound I could get. The 'gold' plating is not what it once was and some of the switches occassionally fail. But great value in comparison.

Important to get a good amp with distortion and reverb to get the full sound.
