if you have a mixer you could use the output on the mixer into your soundcard on your computer with 1 simple lead or if your deck has aux out on it use it that way

have a look at the plus analog recorder got my copy of lime wire shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
i would take a line out from your record player and put it into the line in of your computer (requires a phono to stereo minijack lead). Play the LP and record it using soundforge or audacity which is free from here http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Hack the wav up into the constutuent tracks then burn them to an audio CD.

One of the simplest ways, which doesn't involve messing about with your existing hi-fi is to buy the Bush MTT1 turntable. It has a built-in pre-amp (works with both hi-fis and midi systems if you want) and plugs into your sound card. Only about 50 or less - it was even reviewed in What Hi-Fi magazine! Otherwise you will need to get a pre-amp for an existing turntable eg the Pro-Ject or one from Maplin. Look at the Bush here as a start (Comet used to sell it):-

Failing that, some versions of Audio Cleaning Lab come with connections for a turntable (but no pre-amp?)

Buy a griffin imic. It is a USB - line in/mic connector. You can plug any audio device that has a 3.5mm out into your computer. It comes with an adaptor for hi-fi out as well. Costs about 20 on ebay. I've used mine loads for vinyl, tapes and mini discs.

Thanks all, have some food for thought there. I'll look into all answers then decide which way to go
matt_london, that looks very useful indeed - might condider it myself as my laptop doesn't have a line-in (my desktop does but the laptop might be more convenient).
