There's a cover of Sheryl Crow's 'All I Wanna Do' knocking about, I think by Amy Studt, and I honestly can't tell which version it is when it's on the radio. So what's the point? Just rerelease the original.
A mentioned already, Fear Factory's beefing up of 'Cars' worked, as does the Futureheads 'Hounds of Love'. Two more that move me every time are the opposite: they mellow down the originals and make them more powerful, more haunting, namely Johnny Cash 'Hurt' and Jeff Buckley 'Hallelujah'.
I never used to like covers as i thought they were unoriginal then realised bands are just making the song there style which is a great idea! Some of my favourites are
Talking Heads - Take Me To The River
Tom Tom Club - under the board walk
The Futureheads - Hounds of love
Jeff Buckley- Hallelujah
But then theres covers by Westlife and Atomic Kitten that make me want to cry and not in a good way!
