Anyone have any good examples of songs you didn't realise were covers? I recently found out that Jose Gonzales Heartbeats (Sony TV ad with bouncing coloured balls) was a cover of some Scandinavian dance record.

It was only about 10 years after it's release that I realised that It Must be Love by Madness was a cover. To be fair, I was only 10 when they released it ('81) and only months old when it was released by Labi Siffre ('71)

I always loved Shout! by Lulu as a youngster, and never knew it was an Isley Brothers cover - I still prefer her version.

My daughter thinks Joe Cocker's With A Little Help From My Friends is the original - I still haven't got round to playing the 'proper' version - I'm sure she'll adore Marti Pellow as much as I do !

i didn't realise that Futureheads - hounds of love was a cover! I now love Kate Bush's version just as much!

I remember when Torn by Natalie Imbruglia and She's the One by Robbie Williams were released, there was a bit of controversy surrounding both as they tried to pass them off as their own songs, but both are in fact covers.

my boys thought that Elvis Presley was the original version of " you were always on my mind" then I played them Willie Nelsons (who wrote it)

and whitney Houston doing "I will always love you"

I was gutted when I found out that the brilliant 'Hurt' by Johnny Cash was a cover of a Nine Inch Nails Song.If you have ever seen the Johnny Cash video of this song, you will know what I mean.

Re:raysparx - "Always On My Mind" is a song originally recorded by Brenda Lee and released on 12 june 1972, with music and lyrics by Johnny Christopher, Mark James and Wayne Carson Thompson.Elvis released it in 1973 and it wasn't until 1982 that we got to hear Willie Nelson's version.

I wonder if Lonnie could enlighten me because as far as I'm aware "Achy Breaky Heart" by Billy Ray Cyrus is the original version (1992), although it has been covered since. Who's version are you refering to?
