Does anybody know some good sad songs? I want some quite modern ones, with nice meaningful lyrics but also some classics like adagio for strings. stuff that can move you to tears! please.
Tori Amos- silent all these years is a good one.I also for some strange reason have a strong pull towards Annies song by John Denver - not really a sad song but the music is just beautiful. ( can you get help for this kind of thing?)
"Fake Plastic Trees" by Radiohead is just sublime!! "Air on a G string" by J.S. Bach if you want something classical or "Moonlight Sonata" by Beethoven.
hey i dont need help! i think the best music is always things which are sadder! i think the lyrics are nicer and somtimes i get sick of pop bands and rock and i love anyting which is quiet and soulful. i just love all the mushy lovey stuff! i'm just like that, actually i probably do need help.
How about Christopher Cross, 'Arthur's Theme', or most of Burt Bacharach's stuff, if you're after bittersweet reflections on broken relationships and the like :) (or should I say :( ...?!)
If you want modern, high quality soul, there's the Underwolves - check out their album 'Under Your Sky', or the new LP from their singer Jeb Loy Nicholls, which I haven''t heard, but I know it will be up to the standard.
On the same cd as 'Adagio for Strings' is 'Pavanne' by Gabriel Faure, Romance(The Gadfly) and 'Intermezzo' from Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascani. The last 2 are real soaring spine tinglers. The album is called 'Adagietto' and is part of the Classic fm series - should think it's still available.
Try 'Long Distance Love' by Little Feet, 'Two Outta Three Ain't Bad' by Meatloaf, 'Still In Love With You' by Thin Lizzy, 'Emotion' by Samantha Sang, 'In Too Deep' by Genesis - I've got loads more if you want them - just re-post for an exhaustive list!
Happyducky, Please listen to 'The Old Hyde' on the album of the same name, by Deborah Bonham, sister of the late Led Zeppelin drummer. I have tears now just thinking about that track, which is about the death of her brother and father.
meatloaf if you listen to the song lirics he tells a kind of story especialy objects in the rear view mirror not a dry eye in the house.or you theres i dreamed a dream and little fall of rain from les mis the song from miss saigon about the children being left behind it goes 'conceived in hell born in strife.......i saw a camp for children who's crime was being born'.i dont know how to love him from jesus christ superstar memories from cats so what hapens now? from evita when shes told shes dying.sorry im a very emotional person my colds gone to my brain!!!!
thres but a few i know.
Who Wants to Live Forever? and Mother Love by Queen. On the classical front the Kyrie from Mozarts Great Mass in C is wonderful as is the 2nd movement from Rachmaninovs second piano concerto (the Brief Encounter theme.)
You could try anything by Leonard Cohen! Radiohead have a couple of great tunes, namely "Street Spirit (fade out)" and "Exit music for a film", but if that still doesn't work, try the theme tune to "the littlest hobo"... it always (sniff) gets me!
