Purple Haze, VooDoo Chile. All classics

Do you know what dan the man, i find hendrix an over-rated, boring musician. Granted, he could play the geeetar fairly well but I really don't get all the fuss. The problem is I should like him, looking at my general preferred genre.

However, I should like Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Lenny Kravitz, but for some reason I can't stand them either. Why, I do not know.

However, may I recommend the entire CD of David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold The World". If you are unaware of it, the title track is by far the least rockist. You can hear Mick Ronson's guitar throughout which, if you didn't know, would think was Hendrix.

There's no doubt that Hendrix was capable of doing extraordinary things with a guitar, but a lot of his work was self-indulgent and was just a totally unmusical noise. I remember when Woodstock came out on film in the early 70s, I went to the cinema to see it. When Hendrix did Star Spangled Banner, no-one seemed impressed as it was just a raucous noise, but when he moved into Purple Haze the place erupted. Maybe songs like Purple Haze, Hey Joe and All Along the Watchtower appeal to the unitiated because there are simple harmonies involved, and you need to know about guitar playing to truly appreciate what he was doing.

I play the guitar and rate myself as 'OKAY' and am trying to learn voodoo child on it. Its ahrd work. Been at it for 3 days now and only just got the hang of the beginning. Youve got to hand it to the man. WD. I agree on the bowie stuff and have similar views on the chillis and lenny but find myself hendrix mad.... even with songs like 'when the gods made love and star spangled banner'. The appreciation of the love and experience he has with that guitar goes into it and i enjoy imagining him playing. I dunno... thats my opinion anyway. nice answers by the way. ;-)
Great axeman. Rubbish singer.
for that era hendrix was a good guitarist, however i agree that he was slightly overrated and almost seemed kinda sloppy .but technology has come a long way since then and more effects are available now that were not then.
