In your home make sure all chemicals and such are put away,( kind of like having a 2 year old in the house), that reduces the risk again....but nothing is ever 100% with any animal or human...you try and keep them as safe as you can and enjoy their company, play and give affection...when you do these things to help reduce the risk at least you know you tried to give them the safest environment you could.
Accidents happen, just like when we hurt ourselves sometimes...don't worry too much..enjoy your cat..
