Is she all technical excellence and no soul? People rave about her skill, and I'll concur that she could certainly sing, but everything I've heard of her strikes me as incredibly polite, sanitised , even clinically cold. Am I missing something?

Yes, you are missing your ears. OK, her scat singing doesn't do much for me, but on a ballad I feel she is actually living the words. Listen again to her singing the Rodgers and Hart songs - you might be surprised
