Hazard - Richard Marx
Did RM's character actually commit the murder? Has there ever been an official statement one way or the other?

There was a part two which shows that there was not enough evidence, no prints on Mary or the scarf so the case was deemed a suicide. Richard said that this is NOT based on a true story and when he first wrote the song, he thought that a fictional murder suspect plot was the dumbest thing he ever came up with but his wife insisted it would be a hit and four months later it was #1 in 13 countries, much to his dismay. In fact even though the character of Mary,s death was a suspicious death. It was stated that in the city of Hazard, there have been no suspicious deaths.

It's completely fictional, Marx says, based on "a conglomerate of short stories, movies, and TV".
