sandi thom - do you believe that its all a stunt?

I was at college with sandi, and i know she is talented, and i know she was always pretty determined too.

we hung out a bit so obviously i am very pleased for her and her success.

so i was just wondering what the general public opinion is of the rumors that the basement gigs and her discovery and success, is all a planned publicity stunt by a clever, well know PR company, and that she had been on the books already for ages.

and even if it is true, what do people feel about it?

i personally think, ok, its 'cheating' a bit, but so what? I think it is a very clever bit of making the media work for you, and i would do the same given half the chance, but i know this kind of thing can upset the public, make them feel they have been taken for mugs.

many have commented that for this reason her career is doomed - what do you think.

so guys what do you think of all this.

I guess they may have stretched the truth a bit but it would be naiive to think that any new act that is suddenly thrust into the public conciousness didn't have a hand from some of those nice A&R men.
As far as the public being taken for mugs - I think this can be true for short term success (see a recent act like Tatu) but for an act to stick around for a few years, it has to learn to get by on more than simply marketing hype. Time will tell for your friend...

Cant say ive given it much attention but i must admit that the whole thing did seem a little..........erh............contrived perhaps.

To me it seems they have used the whole 'viral' thing and cynically marketed someone.

There is something fishy about it i think joko and i think you are right to be suspicious. Perhaps you should try it yourself!

Stunt - yes totally check out the album page on amazon to see how. I want to be a punk rocker, could you see her in a moshpit at a Sham gig? Downloaded the album, complete and utter tosh nothing that hasn't been done 100 times before give her a year and she will be forgotton. Just my opinion of course lol.
