I would suggest that you go to a music shop and try a few. Explain that you are a beginner and ask for their advice. They should be very helpful, after all you are a potential life long customer.
If you have short chubby fingers, you may want to consider a model with a wider neck and larger frets. On the other hand thin long fingers may be able to cope with a narrower neck.
Very cheap guitars are often made from inferior woods and will be fine for the first few months, but then the neck can bend or twist and cause all sorts of problems that will impede your progress no end. Tremolo arms on cheap models can also cause the guitar to go out of tune rapidly, either get one woth no tremolo arm or take it off if you can until you've learnt the basics.
Fender and the Squire models are good (as mentioned), also Epiphone and Ibanez produce some very good guitars even at the lower end of the market. There are often reviews online of a particular make & model.
You will often find that once you have found a model the you like, you can get it cheaper online, even from the music shop that you may have visited.
This is where I bought mine, they were very helpful, low priced and speedy.
