Puppy Crying when anyone leaves
18 Answers
Ok as I write this now my mum and dad went out and the puppy has been crying for about 10 minutes. I've looked on websites about how to stop the puppy crying and they say you have to ignore it when it does this - do not reward the dog with attention for crying. That's what I'm doing, it works sometimes but right now it doesn't work. The puppy is still crying and it's in the hall on it's own but it doesn't seem to stop. I don't want to reward it by going back on what I've done. Can anyone help.. I don't know what to do :(

I just let it in the living room and it stopped crying for a while so I went in and praised it, gave it lots of attention. It's hard when my mum and dad are here though because they always say "No" when it cries and it's kinda inconsistent with how I know it should be done.

Make sure the puppy has been fed and has something to chew on - a bone or a hide chew or a pigs ear will keep it occupied.
If you are there, why does the puppy have to be left on its own in another room?
Have you tried a cage? It will be able to go in there to sleep and it will know it is safe when you have to leave it.

puppies often settle down if they have a hot water bottle that has been wrapped in several pillowcases. They see it as another dog, so usually cuddle up to it and go to sleep. Make sure the pup has water and has been fed before you leave it to its own devices though. Also try to make sure it is walked or taken into the garden to relieve itself about 15 - 20 min. after finishing its food. Then let it settle down and do not go comforting it. It will soon learn that there is a time when it is ok to be left alone. A soft toy is always good too leave with the pup too. Best wishes for you and your new friend.
