Creamola Foam
17 Answers
In yesterday's Sun newspaper (I know , I know but hubby buys it ) there was an article about the possibility of Creamola Foam coming back as an Orkney baker has kept a preserved tin which he found whilst renovating the shop and he's saying that he'll sell it to the highest bidder. Inverclyde based company Retrosweets are haggling to buy it and i'm so excited because I craved this when I was pregnant ......... but there's a problem. Brands Partnership own the rights to it but don't have the recipe so can't produce it , Retrosweets hope to chemically analyse it but even if they can reproduce it , they don't own the right to call it CF. So where would they go from here ? Who has the right to it and if it was remarketed under a different name , would it be a seller or do you think that people would be suspicious that it wasn't the real deal ? I for one would be queueing up with a fistful of notes to snap it up quickly. God I miss it. If you haven't tried Creamola Foam you haven't lived. Would you buy it if it came back ?

I'm 30 and drank it as a child but I missed out on the whole Vodka & Creamola Foam concoction so i'd definitely love to give that a whirl this time around if it comes back. I loved bursting open that shiny foil and smelling the lovely powdery scent of lemon , raspberry or orange - depending on what we bought. I even ate it just to feel it fizz and froth in my mouth and by all accounts , lots of others did that too. Did you ? Straight from the tin ......... mmmmmmmm , magic ! Wouldn't it be so good if it came back ? Fingers crossed.
Raspberry was definitely the best but right now I would settle for anything. Apparently they stopped producing it in 1997 or 1998 but I could still buy it from my corner shop up until at least 2000. Now i'm worried , what the heck was I drinking ? That must have been so out of date. I haven't tried a red WKD so I can't really comment on that. Is it nice ? You still can't beat the fizz and froth you get with CF though. It's in a league of it's own. Apparently the German equivalent came a close second to it but doesn't have enough fizz.

Part 1 : Hi In A Pickle. Yes , I thought that too , that Retrosweets would not be able to remarket the real deal as Creamola Foam without being sued by Brands Partnership. The maddening thing is , I have spoken to the company on numerous occasions , begging and pleading for them to bring it back but each time the answer comes back the same - they have no plans to bring it back at this stage and even if they wanted to , they wouldn't know how as they did not acquire the recipe when they bought the brand which also sell Creamola Custard - that's what they really wanted to get their hands on. So poor old foamy has fallen by the wayside because up until now , no-one really knew how it is made.
The closest we got was a tin which was found in Scotland which the Daily Record sent to Brands Partnership to analyse but when I chased them up about it , they said that what was left of the contents had crystalised and they were unable to get an accurate analysis from it. It seems abundantly clear that they have no interest in it and yet if Retrosweets are successful in their analysis and choose to relaunch it , you can bet that Brands Partnership will suddenly show more than a passing interest. What's the bets that a hefty sum will be called for to release ownership ?

Part 2 : Personally I think that kids are bored with the samey samey bland offerings on the market and would welcome a drink where you could mix it up yourself. This drink didn't just appeal to kids though remember , grannies loved it and a nation of drinkers apparently used it with vodka. Never has a drink held such an appeal with every generation. The only concern which I can see for reintroducing it would be health concerns about the amount of sugar in it but then , how many parents buy their kids candyfloss at the fairground ? The contents of which are sugar , sugar and more sugar. Everything in moderation is the key and practicing good dental hygiene with kids. I appreciate that it's not everyone's taste and I guess it's like the whole Marmite debate - you either love it or loathe it. Did you really hate it that much ? You are the first person I have spoken with who actually hates it. Everyone I know loves it and has a story to tell about it. Did you not like any of the flavours ? I guess it's not everyone's cup of tea though. For me it was like nectar to the gods. Oh I want some so much !
enigma is obviously pregnant again . . .got those cravings back????? tee hee. . . .
Ingredients:
Sugar; citric acid; sodium bicarbonate; tartaric acid and some saccharin. Add a little quillaia - I think this is E999 - which is a foaming agent from the bark of a tree (grows in Peru - honest!) and some 'flavouring' - probably a bit of fake fruit flavour to make the raspberry stuff and some colouring.
Half an hour with some measures to get the proportions right and you should be able to recreate CF easily enough so I don't know why there is such a hoohaa about the recipe. . . . .
If you want to have some fun with fizzy stuff, try some sodium bicarbonate and citric acid on plain crisps - instant lemonade flavour crisps that actually fizz in the mouth! Not telling you the proportions - easy to work it out.
and sign this on the off chance there is any hope to get he stuff back.: http://www.petitiononline.com/cremola/petition .html

God no Nickmo - definitely not preggers !!! Mind you , I have been enjoying gherkins more lately .... [shaking head furiously] ... no no no - definitely not. I have three kids - youngest being 19 months - and I have finally learned my lesson lol ! Finally getting sleep again , thank goodness.
Hi once more In A Pickle ! Pan Yan Pickle ? Never heard of it. What is that ?
Apparently Retrosweets are desperate to win the bidding war for the recipe so here's hoping.
No offence Nickmo but nothing beats Creamola Foam. It's such a unique taste. I tried to recreate it by adding water to a double dip (you know , the sherbet with one section which is orange , the other raspberry and a lovely wee swizzell stick to dip with. mmmmm) and at first it fizzed and frothed and I got my hopes up but then it went limp and left a big pile of sludge at the bottom of my glass. Nothing like CF , sigh. Sadly , there have been attempts to recreate it and on the Fred Macauley show , they had a celebrity chef who produced something which fizzed momentarily but died a death. I wouldn't even know where to get all of those ingredients let alone attempt to make it myself. I'd be afraid that i'd blow up my kitchen trying lol !

Hi Tictactoe and In A Pickle.
In A Pickle - Not that young now sadly. I am thirty , thirty one in a few months to be exact. You're not exactly an oldie either are you ? 1947 ? The same birth year as my father and he's a fine looking man. (He hasn't got my arm twisted up my back btw !) When was it discontinued ? It sounds delish. I have tried Branston Pickle but this one sounds yummy too. Now I want some. Why do we always want the things which we can't have ? Your partner has excellent taste if he likes the Creamola range. (This is the point where I become a crawler and say that of course he has good taste , as he is with you !) I can't say that I have ever tried Creamola custard. Apparently that is set to make a comeback though so I will give it a go. Creamola Foam is inherrantly an important part of the Scottish culture for many followers of old foamy. What's next , taking away our Irn Bru ? (Shuddering at the thought) If that ever happened there would be an uproar. How else would people wash a fish supper down or cure a hangover ? Apparently Irn Bru has 'magical' properties.
Tictactoe - So In A Pickle has thrown it wide open to you , dare you take the challenge and reveal your age ? I'm guessing 21 again , am I close ? You have been very quiet tonight. Where are you hiding ?

If retrosweets were to get the contents of the tin analysed then they could put out the word that they have a product "similar" to creamola foam and when they market it on their site they can tell how they got the recipie and people would realise it was the real thing without retrosweets actually sayin it is creamola foam, or brands partnership would probably just sell the rights to just creamola foam not the custard and rice pudding because out of the three that they bought they only plan to make and sell the rice and the custard so they may aswell do the decent thing and sell the rights to creamola foam, anyway, if retrosweets do get hold of the recipie then if people know they are the ones that own the recipieand the ones producing it then people will buy it even if it was called dog turd, i know i would
