Weird instrument

Can anybody tell me the name of the hand-held synthesiser used in Green Wing, First Series, Episode 8. Boyce plays it to the tune of tainted love by Soft Cell. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

The last comment is correct but to answer the second last comment, I know that it was the Soft Cell because it had the music playing in the background and there was no question as to the era of the music. It also had the distinct singers' voices on the track.

Sorry, thought you meant he was just playing the tune on it.
