She looks to see if i am controlling the seething rage that both these monstrosities bring on!!!
Also added to that list now, is Tony Christys " Amarillo". Peter Kay has a lot to answer for!
The only solution is to burn every copy of these records and threaten to punish any DJ that dares to defy this order, preferably by putting them in a room where Black Lace are continuously singing "Agabloodydoo".

1. tainted love by soft cell - why do djs always play that mediocre '80s version when there's a storming original northern soul belter by Ruth Swan?
2. mamma mia (or anything by abba )- overplayed
3. its raining men - ditto.
4. i will survive - ditto
5. anything by robbie williams and his strident tones, but especially Angels - utter slop !

being a dj of over 35 years in the business and still working 6 nights a week, albeit 4 of those are quizzes, i think i know what i'm talking about, you just HAVE to play these songs, like them or loath them, a party is what it says, a party! its a time for ALL to enjoy themselves NOT just the few who think they know best where music is concerened, one mans meat is another mans poison. These songs wouldn't be popular if the masses didn't buy them, which in turn leads us DJs to play them. What we all listen to in the privacy of our homes or car, ipod, whatever, would not go down at all at a party. I'd love to see some of you moaners try and get a party started with some of YOUR favourite music, believe me it doesn't work. I would never tell anyone how to do their job so please leave it to us pros to decide what works and what doesn't at parties. If you're at a party and you don't like the music go to the pub up the road and put the juke box on then we'll all be happy, untill then sit and suffer the Mavericks, Robbie, Tina Turner, OOps upside your head, Agadoo, Ca cha slide, Hey baby, Amarillo, Abba, etc etc! I rest my case melud!!
I agree wholeheartedly with saintpeter48. I'm also a DJ and much as you may not like this stuff, it is often the only stuff to get people up dancing, which is what we are paid for.
I will play the likes of the Streets, Chris Brown etc if asked, but it doesn't result in people dancing, it usually just leaves a few younger people mouthing the words whilst playing pool etc and ends up sending older people to the other end of the bar.
There isn't a lot of new good time party music about (that charts) and hasn't been for the last couple of years, so we have to resort to the old favourites that we know will work.
Kill off hip- hop, R&B and Gangsta rap and bring back some cheesy party stuff to the charts and we'll play you something new.

I'm guilty of loving all of the above 'party' tunes- with the possible exception of Agadoo!
Can't be doin' with music snobbery- what's wrong with happy, cheesy, poppy songs that are guaranteed to fill a dance floor with your grannies and aunties? Bring it on I say!
potters off doing the Timewarp...............

Totaly agree with you there saintpeter
If i play the latest r&b,hip hop, house no one dances as they too busy looking cool on the sides of the dance floor but as soon as i play a few cheesy tunes everones up and dancing and having a laugh
If you book a dj for your family party then you have the right to give them a play list of your fav tunes and see how the night goes

I agree with all the DJ's posting in this thread. Ive been mobile discoing now for over 17 years and you can tell a crowd as soon as you walk thru the door. Ive played the RnB crap that's in the charts now and all you get is the little youngster gangster types just sitting there and moving there heads to the music. If you don't play your Abba, Soft Cell, Human League, Oops Upside Yer Head, Hey Baby, Cha Cha Slide and your usual Motown and 70's the night will be crap and if the customer wants just charts music then they just might as well book yourself a CD player with a set of speakers and play what you want.
