Goo Goo Dolls, Johnny wrote the song so it should have never been covered. I went to see them on Monday and my heart was in my throat when he sang it. Ronan Keating could never give me that feeling. Johnny's Texas husky voice compared to a girly Irish on, come on? And Johnny didnt even have a clue who Ronan Keatin was. Which do you prefer?
I definately prefer the Goo Goo Dolls version. Its one of my favourite songs.

The Ronan version is good, and I used to be a huge fan of his when I was at school, but its no different from the original.

If you are going to do a cover it needs to sound like a new song, not a karaoke version. A good example is No Doubt doing It's My Life - originally by Talk Talk I think but the two songs are very different
yes, what is the point of covering a song if you're going to do a note-for-note carbon copy of it? Iris is a great song, which Ronan could have really doen something with, but he's too bland to pull it off. Mind you, it's better than McFly's 100% copy of Don't Stop Me Now. What was the point of that?

4getmenot. yeah i went to see them play at southampton. and he had no idea who he was he goes "isnt he a some freak from a boyband?" ronan should of done someone else song. and yeah mcfly's - dont stop me now is crap. i prefer the queen version
Ronan would have had to obtain permission to do that song - maybe the Goo Goo Dolls (or their people) should not have sold their song if they did not want it covered. More interested in the money ??
shineybomb as we've said he didnt have have a clue ronan had covered it. So maybe even though he wrote the song he doesnt own the rights to it. matty34 arent they just brilliant live? I went to see them in Notts
Question Author
yeah their brilliant. loved to see then again =D
I'd definately go see them again, or even just Johnny on his own :-)
Cannot believe there was any question that Ronan's version was remotely worth listening to. It is too powerful a song for his voice. As the others said, Goo Goo Dolls are fab performing it live
I would be a shame if someone else owned the rights other than the band wouldn't it. Darn record companies
Definitely the Goo Goo Dolls - Johnny's husky voice is what makes it sound so beautiful. x
i saw them at southampton guildhall too!
definitely the goo goo dolls, its like an anthem. its the original, and usually the originals are the best.
ronan keatings version just doesnt compare. its one of my favourite songs, and its even better live!!
it was funny when he mentioned ronan keating and everyone booed
Question Author
