music transfer

hope some one can help me out here. Until recently my operating system was windows me. I created playlists to copy to my mp3 player but when they were copied to media library from cd they lost their sound for some reason.and consequently no sound on mp3 player.

I have just installed windows xp pro and was wondering if i need to recopy everything as i would imagine that these files are corrupt in some way.

any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

have tried the microsoft site but can't find any info there
