I have just upgraded to the newest avalable itunes, and went to buy a track. This message came up: "Machine authorization was successful". I apparently have used 1 out of 5 of my machines. What on earth does this mean?!
Hi Scarlett. When you buy a track from iTunes, you can "install" that track up to 5 times. In other words if you get a new computer etc. and want to transfer your music over, then this would be your second install. You can do this up to 5 times so that you are not just buying some music and then sending it out to loads of people and ignoring the copyright. For more information look here:
Thanks Ewand- if I get a new PC, which I have to soon, how do you make sure that you keep all your tracks you have bought previously? What is the procedure?
It's a bit of a faff, you have to consolidate all of your music in your library, save to your ipod, and then sort of re-install the music onto your new computer. This step by step guide should help you and tell you how to do it.......
just to add on - you can 'install' your music on an endless amount of pc's but only a maximum of 5 different machines at any one time. If you get rid of an old pc, remember to deauthorize the audible account for that computer - so you have that slot available to use on your new machine.
See details on how to do so here.
