On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross
The emblem of suffering and shame
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain etc
Calvary is mentioned in a later verse. Hope this is the one you're looking for; the lyrics are posted on various websites

A tree stands alone upon Calvary's Hill as a witness in ages to come,
of darkness, despair and of one who must die,
our Saviour, the Almighty's Son.
With nails through his hands and a sword in his side
and a crown made of thorns on his head,
no hatred he bore for the people below,
'forgive them, Dear Father,' he said.
This is all I can remember but I think there was more. It's from a passion play I did at school in the '80s and I've been trying to find it. Other songs included Judas singing, 'I'm far from my home, not a friend I can call my own, I've betrayed my saviour now I walk alone, My crime had to be and one day the world will see that it's happiness survived because of me' etc and Pilate's 'How Strange, How Strange and very unexpected, you made your choice Barabas lives and Jesus is rejected, How Strange, how very, very strange'. Play could be called, So look towards tomorrow' as that's title of the last song. post if you find the play, I'd like my kids to do it!!
