My music class is having us do a project on Rossini, and i can't find information on the piece of music he wrote called William Tell. i need to know the Genre of the Piece and the texture.

gioachino rossini (1792-1868) was very popular and successful in his younger days,particularly as a operatic composer.he gave up composing at the age of 37 when he wrote the william tell overture,which tells the story of a man forced to fire an arrow off his sons head.anyway the upshot is he succeeds in this feat and they all live happily ever after. without doubt this is his masterpiece and has been used many times on tv,particularly as the theme tune to the 1950s show the lone ranger.hope it helps.
