The chord is a G7sus4 played sixth string third fret, second string first fret, first string first fret, all others open...as for the instrument...hmm further research needed but didn't start playing Mr. Rickenbachers guitars till mid64 and that's when the song was a hit so I'll hang fire on judgement on that one.
