There is a great extended (10 mins +) live version of the soul / jazz track 'wade in the water' sung by Marlena Shaw that I heard on the radio once and it blew me away! where can I find it? does anyone know where I can pick up this great track, I searched everywhere!
Thanks for your help! Does the version that you speak of have a vocal or is just the insrumental? If it has no vocal, then it won't be the one!
Somewhere I have a tape onto which I recorded the track from the radio (but I'll have to dig around for it because it was 10 years ago). May be if I re-listen, I'll see if I get any clues from that.....perhaps I can email the radio station!
Marlena Shaw certainly did a song called Wade in the Water, which can be found on an album called Anthology - I guess a best of. Oddly, the composers are credited as Majid and Shaw. I've got a version of the Ramsey Lewis song, sung by a girl singer, which I'll try and find.
Discovered I have a version of the Ramsey Lewis song, by Marlena Shaw - except it's entitled Let's Wade in the Water. Only a three minute-odd version, but it's on a CD called 60s Soul Mix 2. Again, oddly, composer credited to someone else - Anita Wise, but it is the same song.
I'm sorry but all i know is that Marlena Shaw sang in the Ramsey Lewis Trio and that she sang on 'a' version of Wade in the water. Whether that version was ever recorded who is to say eh?
I suppose she could have added it to her own live set over the years, she performed it and it was recorded.
I havent heard the version on Finest Hour to be honest and deejbee's info only adds to the confusion does it not?
