Single stringed instrument
Forgive if this comes up twice
I have just seen an instrument for sale on Ebay uk item no: 2558078941 anyone got any ideas as to what it is. It looks like a lute but it only has one string and it is very intricately carved...anyone?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.It could be a rebec. Although these normally have 3 strings, it seems that Arabian/African/Spanish versions can have one. I did find a defunct link to a photo of what appeared to be someone making a rebec (do a Google image search), so judging by the immaculate state of the instrument, I would assume that this is a modern copy as it seems to be in limited usage these days. I also found reference to it being used in Sephardic music, which (from my extremely limited knowledge of their beliefs) may tie in with the Ram's head on the neck.
