American Idol - marine's song....

I caught a bit of this over the weekend. There was one featured chap who was a marine - he was a bald, quite big guy and the panel likes his voice and put him through. Can anyone tell me the name of the song he sung? Apparently it is quite a popular one for American male contestants (the judges alluded to this fact) but I have never heard it over here?

And with you saying the song is apparently a popular choice on the show, I quote Paula Abdul saying this to the guy after his audition:
