The Answer
No - it's not 42. The question is did Dion (of the Belmonts) record a song called THE ANSWER
I've volunteered to try to find it for a friend, but have drawn a blank on Google and a music download program.
Does anyone remember this song, after all it's only likely to be about fifty years ago! Or am I chasing a figment of someone's imagination?

There is an extended feature with selected discography on Dion in the February 2007 issue of Record Collector magazine, just published. No luck. Do not see your song there. Will keep an eye out though.
I would be inclined to go with keeprockin too re: Del Shannon - and the song "The Answer to Everything" which also marked the debut of Joe Dolan..
