It all depends how confident you are in your PC's Registry.

If you look through the link I posted above, the fault seems to lie in missing Codec(s) which can be rectified if you refer to some of the posts.

One other thing I would try is to download Firefox - a new browser may well have all the codecs intact.
You can uninstall it at any time, but its well worth having in any case.

What version of IE browser are you using?
You may cure the problem by re-installing or updating to IE7.

Sadly, your problem is deeply rooted - but I am keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I'm no good wiv PCs, so I'd never be able to do the "registry" thing! :o(

How do I find out what version of IE I'm running?

Go to your Menu Bar (within Internet Explorer)
Click on "Help"
then click on "About"
this will tell you the version.

IE7 is the current version (it replaced IE6 a few months ago) and it is what they call a "Tabbed Browser"

Like Firefox, it can open web pages under a series of Tabs which makes browsing easier.

Click on this link, and download Firefox.
Try YouTube using this first - with a little luck it might just work, although it may require a few downloads of software applications to get it up and running.

I'm running IE6.

Can I download IE7? Is it free? Might that solve my problem?

it might just cure your problem ... but there are a few websites which cant work with it.

My advice, try Firefox first - check your favourite websites work, then upgrade to IE7.

OK sg, this all but rules out the browser(s) now, so we are slowly getting somewhere.

We next need to update your Soundcard Drivers.

Go into 'Control Panel'
and then click on 'Sound and Audio Devices'

Click on the Tab marked 'Audio'

The window that pops up here has three sections, the top-most of which is 'Sound Playback'
this will display a line with the 'Default Device'
This should be set to the Soundcard fitted in your PC
e.g. SB 123 Live!

Take a note of what is displayed in this line.

If this does NOT specify the name of your soundcard, click the little 'down arrow' button at the side of the line, and it will present all the possible options.
Make sure you select your Sound Card and don't alter the selection to anything else if it is correct.

Once we have the name/type of Soundcard we need to find the manufacturers website and download the latest driver for your card.
(e.g. google "SB123 Live Driver" and look for the manufacturer)

Any problems come back here with the name of the card.

In "Control Panel", my "Default Device" showed as "Realtek HD Audio output". I do not know if that is right or wrong.

When I clicked on the drop-down, there were no other options.

OK, here's the next step

First go here

Part way down the page you will see
"Realtek HD Audio Codec Driver R1.63 driver description"
which has a little green arrow "Download" symbol beside it.

You need to click on this link.

A new page will launch (so long as you dont have any pop up blockers!) and you should/might then get the Internet Explorer Security warning bar at the top of the page.
PC makes a bleep noise when this appears.

Right Click on this bar and select "Download File".
The file is about 16 Megabytes and is a .exe file.

Save this downloaded file to your PC
(Somewhere you can find it!! )

Once downloaded, go to the file, and double click on it to install it.

Your PC will likely need to be rebooted after it installs.

This should bring your Sound Codecs up to latest specs.

A new page DID load, but the download didn't happen and it mentioned "loading a mirror" which threw me!

Click this, and again watch out for the Internet Explorer bar which pops up at the top of the page.

You will need to right click on this bar and select "Download File"

(A Mirror is basically another place on the Internet that a file is held - best try this download in the morning to avoid mirror site)

Followed it to the letter. When I downloaded it and then went to "run" it, I got an on-screen message saying something like "no driver with this device"! :o(

Without seeing your PC there is little more I can now do... what you need to find out now is the exact sound chip or card fitted in your PC.
Might be worth contacting the manufacturer of your PC for help here, or find a mate with some PC knowledge.

Hey mate, you fix is fairly easy actually. Sorry for the really late response lol. Anyways. follow these steps:

1) start
2) run
3) regedit
4) hkey_local_machine>software>microsoft>windows NT>CurrentVersion>drivers32 look for wavemapper registry at the bottom and double click it, Add msacm32.drv... if it is not there right click, go to new string value and call it wavemapper and once again add the value msacm32.drv.

I did exactly what you said........................and I STILL get no sound on YouTube! :o(
