"A Great Day in Harlem"
Yesterday I watched this jazz documentary again,
and I cannot identify the tune that is played as the
credits are scrolled up at the end of the film. It's
very familiar, I know that I know it, but the title just
won't come to mind. It's being played by Coleman
Hawkins, recorded I think around 1944, and as
usual Hawk is doing his wonderful improvisations
on the tune's harmonies, so that the melody is not
heard. Perhaps some jazz buff (I know there are a
few on the AB) can identify it for me.
