I heard a really lovely song on the way to work. An operatic type voice with the refrain "Don't give up" after it finished JW said "in the words of Fonz HEYYYY." This didn't help me identify it! Any ideas ? Thank you.

Possibly Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush - Don't Give Up. Not very operatic, but give it a try.
Looks like it was Josh Groban

If you go to the radio 2 webpage you get the playlist;

Thankyou -I tried the playlists yesterday but no luck I have to be more patient!
I think Dr Wu is spot on with this, here are the lyrics for Josh Groban...
You Are Loved (Don't Give Up)

Don't give up
It's just the weight of the world
When your heart's heavy I
I will lift it for you
Don't give up
Because you want to be heard
If silence keeps you I
I will break it for you

Everybody wants to be understood
Well I can hear you

Everybody wants to be loved
Don't give up

Because you are loved

Don't give up
It's just the hurt that you hide
When you're lost inside I
I'll be there to find you

Don't give up
Because you want to burn bright
If darkness blinds you I
I will shine to guide you

Everybody wants to be understood
Well I can hear you

Everybody needs to be loved
Don't give up

Because...you are loved

Don't give up
It's just the weight of the world

Don't give up
Everyone needs to be loved

You are loved

Thankyou - yes it's the song I fell in love with the minute I heard it (The fact he's quite a hunk is a bonus) You are kind to write the lyrics for me, I shan't sing them as well as young Josh!
