Was just listening to Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones and when the opening note is played you instantly know the song.

Which got me wondering, how many other songs are out there that are unmistakable with just one note played ?

I think there was actually a set of University Challenge questions a while back that did this with classical pieces. Anyway, although it's a chord rather than a single note, the first sound on The Beatles' "A Hard Day's Night" is pretty distinctive.
Procul Harum's 'A Whiter Shade Of Pale'. Eagles 'Hotel California'.
Other 'chord' openings are 'Question' by The Moody Blues, Pink Floyd's 'Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)'.
Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty
Joe Dolchi 'Shadupa ya face' :):)
I was gonna say Hard days night but jenstar beat me to it! Unmistakeable!
My Chemical Romance Welcome to the Black Parade
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
i heard one on the radio today, Buggles, video killed the radio star!
Almost anything on the Motown label as the songs were all written to sound very distinctive and recognisable from the intro.
I Feel Fine by the Beatles
Love is All Around by Wet Wet Wet
Fernando by Abba - I always know that one.

Queen songs tend to be quickly recognisable too.

Born to run - Bruce Springsteen another one easy to recognise.
I think it's more likely because you love the songs you're listening too...
Like many of my all time favourite songs I could recgonise instantly..
